Ayurvedic Detox in Kerala, India

My own journey started with some serious health challenges. I was struggling with perimenopause symptoms, sugar cravings, exhaustion, and difficulty focusing. I had seen so many practitioners in California with no changes and a lot of money spent. I decided to go to India, the birthplace of Ayurveda a 5000 year old whole body health system that heals body mind and spirit naturally. I am forever grateful to this healing modality, this culture, this land,  and all the love, care, and profound skill of all the staff and doctors

It was an incredible experience culturally, health wise, and for my soul.  Because Ayurveda is a body mind and spirit healing modality, it has the capacity to change mental thought patterns, emotional blockages and spiritual disconnection, while balancing and healing the organs of the body with herbs and ancient body treatments. At the Ayurvedic centre, I encountered people healing from various illnesses weight challenges, inflammation, hormone imbalances, cancer, and arthritis.  People would come out of their Panchakarma cleanse looking lighter, not just physically, but emotionally, and energetically as well.  After doing a 21 day Panchkarma detox I no longer had the same sugar cravings, I was able to make the lifestyle changes that best served my body and, I generally felt clearer and happier. Part of the healing comes from being in the culture itself,  when you are immersed in a culture that fully believes in healing naturally, it feels so different. I am so grateful to the staff and doctors who helped me with such devotion and care.  It is for this reason, that I wanted to share this experience with others.

1. Purvakarma (Preparatory Phase):

  • Deepana & Pachana: Dietary practices to stimulate digestion and prepare the body for detoxification.

  • Snehana (Oleation): Applying medicated oils or ghee internally or externally to loosen toxins from deep tissues.

  • Swedana (Sudation): Inducing sweating through steam baths or other methods to further mobilize toxins and help them move to the gastrointestinal tract for elimination.

2. Pradhanakarma (Main Treatment Phase):

  • This phase involves the five main procedures, selected based on individual needs and dosha imbalances:

    • Vamana (Therapeutic Vomiting): To eliminate excess Kapha dosha, often used for respiratory issues and skin disorders.

    • Virechana (Purgation Therapy): To remove excess Pitta dosha, cleaning the digestive tract, liver, and gallbladder.

    • Basti (Enema Therapy): To balance Vata dosha and cleanse the colon, helpful for constipation, back pain, and joint problems.

    • Nasya (Nasal Administration): To clear toxins from the head and neck region, addressing issues like sinusitis and migraines.

  • 3. Paschatkarma (Post-treatment Phase):

  • Samsarjana Krama (Diet Regimen): A gradual transition to heavier foods to restore digestive strength.

  • Vihara (Lifestyle Recommendations): Advice on healthy lifestyle practices to maintain dosha balance and prevent toxin re-accumulation.

  • Rasayana (Rejuvenation): Therapies and herbs to nourish tissues, boost immunity, and enhance vitality.
